Installing cURL

hi, I'm trying to install cURL. sadly though I have absolutely no idea how to install these sorts of things. Is anyone familiar with cURL? I read the directions and I was lost by the first sentence. can anyone give me a short noobie guide to installing it?

which PHP version, OS and web server do you have ?

I use a Mac (OS X). I'm using PHP4 and I'm pretty sure I'm on a windows server..
