what types of jobs are there?

Just a month or two ago I pickup and a php book and started to practice some php and realized this is something I really like to do. I kinda grew an attachment to it.

Now that i have been playing around with it for some time now and its time to register for college I was wondering what kind of jobs are available in the web/ programming/ development world.

I also had some C programming class before but it just touched on the subject. I really enjoy programming, developing and the web the environment.

So, basically I am asking for some feedback on what kind of careers are available in the programming and development world.

My ears are open to all kinds of suggestions and feedback on the different careers in these fields. (web/ programming/ development)

i've just come out the tail end of five years of an intelligent systems degree - taken part time due to work. I properly messed up, as it was quite theory based (and while i can program, theory bores me).

My old uni mates are in jobs in the following categories...

• hardware development / support

• software development / support

• systems support

• project management

• systems analysis

• consultancy / advisory

• web development

• web marketing

My job is quite varied, and started off as a placement (sandwich) from uni. I get to dabble in just about every one of these categories, which makes it great fun and also works well for me, as I have a wide range of experience.
