i cant seem to find a working script that tells whats the satus of the server.. whenever the server is down i get and error message plus the "down" text i specified
(the servers address is an IP address if that matters on port 80)

If a server is down how is it going to run a script to tell you what the status is?

Or do you mean remotely?

Your ISP is probably using a transparent proxy.

The transparent proxy is making the request on your machine's behalf, and it's that which makes the error message if the server is down.

As it's transparent, you cannot affect its operation in any way.

could someone fix it for me to display only text when the server is down

Put an @ symbol before fsockopen()..

$check = @fsockopen($site, 80);

..and it'll be fixed.

is there a faster way that anyone knows of to see/print if the server is up?

with the script i have now it takes up like 10 min for it to load and whatever is below that doesnt load until it says that the server is up
