Where are you on the political grid?

I found this site and thought that it was quite interesting. It ranks you on a political grid on two factors: communism vs. capitalism and authoritarianism vs. libertarianism. I found out that I was a libertarian communist (well not exactly a communist, just leaning towards the economic and social left). My coordinates on the grid were -7.00 (economic) and -4.46 (social).

It kind of makes certain assumptions about who will be taking it, doesn't it? Notice how it uses the word "Our".

Economically, on the left: -5.62
Socially, fairly conservative, but a little towards the liberal: -0.77

I was fairly pleased with these results.

I found it interesting that most leaders whether left or right were actually on the authoritarian side. Even the Pope was there! But that coincides with my personal experience with the post-Vatican II Church. Although they are definitely LEFT and talk about social justice and all, it's as if they are holding a gun in their coat pocket, with a maniacal smile saying "don't forget to love your neighbor".

Most of these online political quizzes seem to be quite accurate. Based on my beliefs, they seem to put me exactly where I thought I was. Except for one that told me I was an anarcho-communist...I'll find that link and post it here. It seems to believe that everyone is at some sort of extreme.

Edit: Just stumbled on here in early 2015 and took the test again. I've become more radicalised over the years. My social score is now -5.74 and economically I'm so far left I'm literally off the grid at -10.88!
Funny: I don't feel any more extremist...

Yes, I suppose you are right. PHP Builder seems to be an example: those who "have" (the experienced) share their knowledge with those who "have not" (the newbies) (i.e. a communal economy) and furthermore they do it individually and freely (without state coercian) (i.e. anarchy). Therefore: communal anarchy. Next question: would this carry over to the real-tangible if, somehow, the community were actually together in space and time? And would it involve the actual giving of possessions to the less fortunate? For instance a newbie in real-life may be well-off and give to a PHP guru with very little financial or other resources... I wonder... :bemused:

If you want it taken to an extreme, there's the Coalition of Polises in Greg Egan's novel Diaspora.

He was less extreme with Stateless in Distress. In the latter the inference is that Stateless continued to function because the people who emigrated there wanted it to (it's not like they'd go to all the trouble they went to just to play Lord of the Flies): the question arose whether the next generation would have the same idealism.
Considering what's happened here over the years....

Yes, I think you are exactly right on wp, emigration based on personal desire (i.e. even some kind of conversion) is really the key, and therefore, everyone present would be quite happy to make it work (without strict government).

The more civil freedoms you give someone in a government, the more you trust them to be reasonable.

So, the more Libertarian you are, the more you trust people to be reasonable, to not have to be bogged down by laws. In Authoritarian systems, it is believed that people are unreasonable.

Us PHPers seem to think that people are reasonable as a whole :rolleyes:

I'm not completely convinced it is that accurate though. What about views on public/private ownership, understanding and ability to integrate with other cultures, interest in languages, opinions on methods of education. There are more. These are the ones I can only come up with off the top of my head.
