ordering the rows manually??

Hello everyone!

I am working on my school's website. What I want to do is to order the rows manually instead of ordering it by the ID or something like that.... Is it possible to acvhieve that? If it is, then do I need to create an extra column in the table, which will store the ordering information?

yes, preferably an integer field.

thanks for the help, but I have another question... Lets say I have 7 rows in a table and I wana change their order with a PHP script...so will I need to use pull-down menu thingy or something like that to accomplish that???
