php with dreamweaver

hello all,
I have created a php page (with extension .php) in dreamweaver but I can't see the <?php or ?> at the beginning or end of the page.
Could you please explain why?

What file are we talking about when editing the PHP page in Dreamweaver or viewing the PHP file in a browser?

I want to add session management to integrate my website into my phpbb forum. In the instruction I should add before ?> the code
"define('IN_PHPBB', true);
$phpbb_root_path = './';
include($phpbb_root_path . 'extension.inc');
include($phpbb_root_path . 'common.'.$phpEx);

//
// Start session management
//
$userdata = session_pagestart($user_ip, PAGE_INDEX);
init_userprefs($userdata);

// End session management
//
but on my pages created in dreamweaver and having .php extension I don't see the <?php or ?>

simple question, but have you actually typed the php tags? dreamweaver may not automatically add them for you.

i know dreamweaver sometimes strips things out when you save files, and that might be whats happeneing.

just a peice of advice. dreamweaver can be great for rapid html development. but for php coding, i would avoid it like the plague. seriously, consider getting a good editor designed for php, theres plenty of excellent free ones.

im sure searching this message board for "php editors" or a similar query will yield you lots of good recomendations.
