Help to echo text

Hi
This is a fairly simple question but it is driving me nuts. im trying to echo out some text within a <td> tag. The problem is that the text when echoed expands the table in terms of width.

Does anyone know how to echo text and stop it from expanding the table

HTML table cell widths will expand to the contents within. so if you put a big bunch of text in a table cell, it will expand. you could always add line breaks or wordwrap to keep this from happening.

by default a html table cell will word wrap the text to fit the width
unless there are no spaces or punctuation you can use nowrap attribute to force no wrapping of text

you can wordwrap the text in php before echoing it

 
$txt='this is a sentence of exceptionally long vocabulary';

echo wordwrap($txt,7,'<br />',1);
