sql query query

how do i put more than one sql query in one sql variable?

i have experimented with putting things iin brackets, addinmg commas etc, but cant crack it.

im sure this is a very obvious question to many of you, i appreciate your time to answer this simple question.

$query =  "INSERT INTO crew1 			
VALUES ('oliver','waring','ollie','01562746873','1','10','5','boy')

INSERT INTO crew1 					
VALUES ('libbie','chivertion','spaz','011325647276','0','5','10','girl')";

mysql_query can only handle one query at a time.

these two inserts can be combined:

$query = "INSERT INTO crew1             

VALUES ('oliver','waring','ollie','01562746873','1','10','5','boy'),
('libbie','chivertion','spaz','011325647276','0','5','10','girl')";
