could someone write me a simple script that will upload a certain file in a visitors computer automatically?

This is what i need it for: Me and my friends got this website running, where the news are read from a text file. They use a simple upload form to upload a text file and that changes the news.

I know it sound hillarious for me to do this, but I have a good reason.

What I would like is for my friends to put a NEWS.TXT on their desktop and then just to visit http://mydomain.com/updatenews.php and it grabs the file from their desktop.

My php knowledge is limited, so if you could help that would be great.

You're not the first to think about this. In fact, the folks who produce web browsers have thought about this too. Its not possible to automate the file upload process using a browser. This is by design and for the user's safety (to make sure a website doesn't grab other more useful files).

An alternative would be to do something with FTP and creating an FTP script. But it would have to reside on your friend's computer...
