I was wondering if someone could tell me how to go about making a simple anti leech "download.php" for my site MegaMan Matrix (www.megaman.co.uk)
I run a couple of shoutcast stations and wish to make the mp3s that the station uses downloadable, but since I have thousands of tracks (all are totally legal, FYI) I don't want any competition stealing my bandwidth.
All the mp3s are stored in the directory /root/media/ on my server (might seem odd, but it makes cron stuff related to the shoutcast stations a lot simpler)
I also plan on making only registered users of my forum be able to download the tunes if necessary, but that's not important now, I just want to get some groundwork done. (my chat is already limited to board users with 50 or more posts, so I'll be trying to combine the code i used there with whatever code I might get for the anti-leech)
Anyway, I tried "Anti Leech v1.1a" from http://www.woxx.co.uk/ which first seemed like it would be ideal for my needs, except that it doesnt work at all! (see my post on their forum about that here: http://www.woxx.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=10 - no response 🙁)
So, I was hoping that someone could tell me how to go about making a page that would refer a URL like www.megaman.co.uk/download.php?file=whatever.mp3 to the file /root/media/whatever.mp3
I'll probably be using the same (or similar) system for avi and zip files at a later date.
I liked the idea of that WOXX script being able to limit the speed of downloads too, but that's not really necessary, I guess (hopefully the 50 post limit thing will stop my bw getting crippled anyway)
Anyway, I apologise for being so long winded about all this, and I apologise if this should have been in Coding rather than Newbies, but I am a total n00b when it comes to stuff like this, so I thought it'd be more likely to be put in layman's terms if I posted here.
