ok...so i received a spam message today. my screening is pretty good so i don't get many and occasionally i get one that really bugs me because it says "hey this is in response to that request you sent me for info on a new mortgage!" Why does this bother me so much? I don't have a f***ing house and I would love to have one.
So occasionally I will look at the mail headers and contact the owners of the IP address where the mail came from. I did this today. once. About half an hour later, I get another message (also from IP address in brazil) that says "click this link, you will be interested!". Now I KNEW that it was a malicious message so I reported it...but I just HAD to look at the page to find out what the attack was going to be. I amped up my security settings so that scripts and applets wouldn't run and visited the link. sure enough, my virus scan software says "VIRUS/TROJAN CLEANED!"
So I reported all the IPs involved and called up the people hosting the virus and they are going to shut it down. But I want MORE...I want a criminal case. I want to SHUT DOWN those chumps. I want Interpol to kick down that guy's door. This process should be easy and automated. There should be a site somewhere that lets you report a known virus location for the benefit of the general public.
So I started googling around a bit for somewhere to report a virus. You can't do it at McAfee.com. You can't do it at Hackerwatch.org. Where can you do it? It boggles my mind to think there is no location where you can do this. Are there any vigilantes out there who will take care of this (like Billy Jack or Chuck Norris or something)?
Just curious.
