displaying data in two columns

How do I display the mysql results in two columns?
Each result is one row in the mysql table

| col1 | col2 |

also, the listings are sorted by rank.
Lets say the that result1-3 are rank 1

then result 4 should be displayed at col1, thus leaving
col2 empty.
like this:

| col1 | col2 |

could you guys please help me out?

Basically, this person wanted to grab information from a database and display it in a table.

Specefically you should look toward the last posts because that's where the answer really is. I'm guessing that you have your database set up so that there is only 1 entry per row, but you just want to show them in a table.

You can adapt the script as you see fit. The one you will need is the last one that I posted. Change some minor things (like DESC to ASC) and variables, and you're set.
