[Resolved] i need help with image magick

i need to do something simple with image magick. Today i started reading documentations and tutorials, in order to figure out how to do it, now after few hours reading, in my head is big mess, and i still can't figure out how exactly to do it.
Please if someone of you already have experience with this tool, save me the hours and the headache and tell me how to do the following:

let's say we have big images with pretty different dimensions.

they all need to be resized to thumbs, where one of the dimensions is minimum 100, and the another is as much as needed bigger than 100

hm, this isn't very clear, so i'll give a example
big image 500x800, should be resized to
100x180

BUT

big image 800x500, should be resized to
180x100

in short: i need the smaller dimension to be 100, the another should be 100+, because i'll need to "-shave" to 100 later

the idea is, the end result to be 100x100 thumb, with observed aspect ratio.

You do this in a script:

$v=vertical
$h=horizontal

if($v>$h){

$newh=100;
$newv=round($v*($newh/$h),0);
}
else{

$newv=100;
$newh=round($h*($newv/$v),0);
}

well guys if some day u need square thumbs with observed aspect ration (little cropping required)
