Loading data with funky characters

I am loading data from a tab delimited file from a third party I am working with. A couple of funky characters seemed to pop up. I am assuming it is because there is sometype of original character in the original text file. My original thought is that it was a bullet symbol and when parsed it sometimes comes out crazy. I tried this but it didn't work...

$str = str_replace("•", ",", $details);

take a look at the gif attacment and let me know if you have any ideas on this.

Specifically, which character are you referring to? Sorry, but the gif file is small... Is that a capital A with a dot over it? Or are you talking about the Yen symbol? Please post more details including a larger image...

Sorry about being so vague. I actually wanted to know what both characters are so I can attempt to strip them. Is there another function that will strip these types of characters.

I don't see these characters in the original text file but they show up when display them in an html file and/or a flash file which I use php to pull from the database I imported the original text file to.

Basically I just want to strip or replace these character out of the file.

I updated the link with another pic and attached a gif file of the same image.

It's HTML ASCII code.

The A with the carat over it is denoted by extended ASCII code of 0194 (HTML ASCII '&#194' &#194😉 and the Yen symbol is denoted with extended ASCII code of 0165 (HTML ASCII '&#165' &#165😉.

Now, as far as how to parse it... I am not 100% certain how you would go about it, but recommend you start here: [man]html_entity_decode[/man]
