Making random guest id

How do I make a random guest id in php, like when a user submits a post in my system, it gives him the next up ID on the list.....

btw this is for mysql..

your question contradicts itself. if you want a number that is the next in a list then it is not random.

if you are asking how to get the next primary key integer for a mySQL table then the answer is: you don't have to. mySQL does that for you if you set the field to auto_increment.

Ok but if i set the Interval as 4, then will the guest id's only be like:

I want it to go up to high numbers...

Also I get this error when I try to set auto increment

#1075 - Incorrect table definition; There can only be one auto column and it must be defined as a key

Two things:
1) If you've already got an autoincrementing column, why not use that?

2) What about [man]uniqid[/man]?
