Extended Parameters in the link... erm... yeah..

Hello again,

Can i just say thanks for all the help so far.. ive almost finished the beta version of my game... anyway im a bit puzzled as to how to use the extended parameters in links. If your wondering what im on about then look at the address bar now... NOW!

that is what i see... anyway what i want to know about is this part:

"newthread.php?s=&action=newthread&forumid=3"

how do these extra parameters get put on there.. is it just setup in the AHref tag?

and how do you read them off the address when the page is loaded?

its just i could do with a system like this as i would like to have a page called... lets say "Options.php" and it will load "Results.php", its just i would like to pass over a variable depending on which link is clicked to load the Results page...

Yes, those are parameters passed on via the URL. In short, it's like using a form with the GET method. To access them use $_GET['var_name'] Ex:
URL: second.php?from=first.php&something=83453

Of corse second.php is the file/script running. And ? signals that the next part is the query string. Next it goes var_name=value and if you have more than one variable, use & between them. Not to access them use:

$came_from = $_GET['from'];
$something  = $_GET['something'];

Now of corse you'll want to validate that stuff to make sure it's correct. But that is the basics.
