If there is anyone out there who can help me, I will be eternally grateful to you.

I am trying to build an online site that tickets can be purchased from, but I am come to a stand still. Using Dreamweaver MX 2004, PHP and MYSQL. The table I am refering to is the following:
Seats(seatNumber, rowNumber, seatStatus) seatStatus being booked or empty. I have got to the stage where the user can select an event, but now I would like if possible some sort of visual display where the user can pick empty seats and book them, thus updating the database.

What kind of diplay are you talking about? Do you want to map the auditorium layout so people can see where each seat is and eg click a check-box for the seat they want? Or do you have a graphic of the seating plan and just want to list the seats that are available so people can choose from the list?

2 very diff approaches when it comes to both the query and generating the html code that displays the results.

I would like the check boxes to indicate each seat, so the layout of check boxes on the screen represents the audotorium. If this is too complicated then a list of check boxes with each seat number next to it would be fine.

it's not very practical to display all seat with checkbox on one page. I would think about narrow down to sections.

Do you need to help with how to code the page? Or the way to implement?

I could break it down further into 4 blocks, Seats 1-25 in Block A, 26-50 in B, 51-75 in C and 76-100 in D. So the auditorium has 4 blocks, ABC and D, each block has 5 rows of 5 seats, totaling 100 seats.

Maybe the main page could have a diagram of the auditorium and then the user can select which block they want to book from using a list box. depending on what they select in the liost box would determine which seats are available???

As you can see, I'm only displaying the empty seats. You could select all seats in the chosen block and enable or disable the checkbox for each seat if it is empty or booked. Would look nicer. but obscure the logic of my example code. Up to you. Get this working first then dress up the display.
