How to set an initial file name in an input file type tag

Hi!
Is there a way to do what I'm saying in the post title?

My real problem is that I'm doing an image upload script and I show the user 2 buttons. preview and upload. If the user clicks the preview button the script starts on click a javascript function to show the picture in a new window but the text box with the name of the file goes blank so the user has to browse again for uploading the image...

In a word...No. Due to security restrictions you cannot set the value of a file tag. Imagine if the control was hidden - you caould set the value using javascript and upload any file you choose from the user visiting your webpage. If you were that way inclined.

Which also is likely why this manual says about the "value" attribute:

Cannot be used with type="file"
