Dynamic Folders/Files?

Instead of showing

http://www.site.com/news.php?id=34

can a url like

http://www.site.com/news/34/

be showed? Like display a certain items from a folder without creating the folder?

An example would be teamxbox...
eg:
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/7472/BioWare-Boosts-Charitable-Giving-in-2005/
