dumbed down php forum

trying to write a forum like script.

where you have a textarea and once you submit, it will display the post on the same page as the textarea so you can add another post. no mysql, no users, etc. anyone can post.

i have attempted this, but i am a php noob. can anyone help?

Well, if line 5 is
$msg = "Name:$_POST['poster_name']/n";
then it's saying that it does not like what is in the message string.

Try this

    $msg = 'Name: ' . $_POST['poster_name'] . '<br />';
    $msg .= 'Message: ' . $_POST['message'] . '<br /><br />'; 
    echo $msg;

Sorry. Because it's 'message' I used email messsage newlines not html breaks.

first of all, roger thanks a lot for your help.

the script is not giving errors, but it will not show the message that was typed in. see my example at www.lothclan.com/test/index.php

Well. Here is your chance to develop some debugging skills.

Step 1 is to echo out all of the POST vars to see what is and is not being sent from the form. Several ways to do that, I'll let you choose which one you prefer.

Once you can see what is being sent you will be well on your way to solving the problem. Either you are not sending the correct data to the target script, or it is not processing them correctly. When you know which it is then you know what to fix.

Hint: check their names and their values

Did you get this resolved aresgodofwar30? When I looked, it is displaying my message every time. There is no running Blog-like listing of names and messages, but each name and message shows up fine for me.

Yep. He fixed it. Simple problem of send != Send. Pasted my code without reading it, and I never use mixed case because of that sort of thing.
