PHP & HTML coding question

Which is the preferred method for coding PHP & HTML?

Let PHP create the page with several echo statements that have the HTML in them

or

Create a HTML page and have inline PHP where needed

Is it just a coding preference or are there actual performance differences that need to be utilized?

Personal prefference. I suppose most of us would use php if it was a lot of code with loops to generate the html, and html if it was a lot of html with just a little php variable substitution.

I don't think there is any significant performance issues: though I stand to be corrected on that if anyone knows better.

I think it is a bit of personal preference as well, but also stand to be corrected.

I think as long as you code consistently and code for portability and reusability, you will find the method and style that works best for you.

I agree with Rogers views.

If you just have a simple query to grab data to display as a list, then inline would work best so you can visualize the rest of the page. If you are crunching numbers inside of a loop and running or parsing of data requiring HTML to format the display of this data, then more PHP would be obvious.
