Problem with move_uploaded_file(), account on server full?

Hi guys!

I have a strange problem with my image-uploader-resizer-code on my webpage. Suddenly one day I wasn't able to upload pictures anymore. The first thought that hit me was of course that I've run out of space on the server that hosts my site.

If I delete an old picture I'm able to upload a new (sounds even more that I've run out of space).

But the strange thing is that if I use a FTP-client I'm able to upload a 20MB file without a problem.

I's the size of my account static through PHP and dynamic if I use FTP? What's going on here?

I really don't know how to fix this, hope someone of you have had a similar problem.

Well what is the error message your getting with move_uploaded_file I doubt PHP can actually tell how big your Account is.

You could try [man]disk_free_space/man, but I'm not sure if that will actually tell you how much space is allowed on a shared host. I suppose it depends how they set up their space quotas.

The warning message I receive is:

Warning: move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/var/tmp/phpQ1wPzE' to 'temp/test.jpg' in /home/pri/hannus/public_html/upload.php on line 6

I tried the following code:

	echo "Free space: ".disk_free_space("/")." bytes";
	echo "<br>";
	echo "Total space: ".disk_total_space("/")." bytes";
?>

And the output is:

Free space: 4546625536 bytes
Total space: 6193352704 bytes

Well I guess 4GB+ is the total amount of free space on the partition, not just for me... 😉

While running the upload-file this morning to get the warning-message I discovered something strange. I had left the same files on the server as yesterday so I thought that I would get the warning-message right away. But I was able to upload almost 3MB more before I got the warning.

Did the size-limit grow during the night because my account was full?

The [man]disk_free_space[/man] call that you used was checking the free space at the root directory. Try disk_free_space("/home/pri/hannus/public_html/");.

Oh, thanks for the tip!

Now it shows that I have about 13MB free of 25MB total.

I don't know why it works today, I havn't changed my code in any way.

Well if it turns out that I'm not able to upload pictures again and disk_free_space shows that I have space left I will write to this thread again.
