[Resolved] Selecting part of a record from a table

Hi All,

I have RTFM (maybe not the right bit though!!) but have probably missed something.

I have a table that has dates in it as follows;

2005-12-23
2005-07-12
2005-07-13
2004-01-30
2004-01-07
2003-02-02

etc...

All I need is unique years. I tried SELECT DISTINCT Date FROM thetable WHERE............

But after I had written it I realised that would return all records where the dates are not the same.

Is it possible to return part of a record?

Told you I hadn't read the right bit....

For anyone with the same problem the answer is;

SELECT DISTINCT LEFT (Date,len) FROM thetable WHERE............

Where Date is the column and len is the amount of chars you want.
