textbox woes

hi all,

I just added an invite a friend feature on my website, and in the textbox somebody can write a note to their friend. However, when I pass this through php, all the apostrophes (') have a \ in front of them.

I tried adding htmlspecialchars to the message, but that still didn't cut it. What should I do?
