echo primary keys value

hi all,

just looking for a way to echo the primary keys value into a webpage, the primary key on my table is an simple auto incrementing integer 1, 2, 3, etc... how can i assign the integer value to a variable for display in a page i just keep gettin things like "Resource id #5" being displayed instead....

I appreciate this is probably basic but i had a look for an answer to no avail..

The message you are getting indicates that you are trying to echo the resultset itself not the contents

// you have something like this for your query

$result = mysql_query($query);

// and you are then 

echo $result;

// Yes?

// To display the contents you have to loop through extracting each row into an array

while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) {
   echo $row['id'];
   echo $row['next field name'];
}

NB you have to use your query name and field names in place of my $row['id'] etc

Hey thanx alot Roger thats just what i was looking for....
basically my algorythm or logic was correct but my syntax was rubbish, I'll get the hang of this apparently ugly lookin code one day😉

Find the way that works for you and stick to it. There are many php tools for processing query results, but I use mysql_fetch_array everytime. Would only use another tool if fetch array was not suited. Others have their favourites, some like to return rows as objects?? Can see a single advantage that gives them, even when they have posted the code here I see no reason. But hey, each to his own.
