preg_replace outside of html

hey,

i'm trying to replace a word in a html page, without affecting html tags and their attributes. ie, the word also appears in the image links etc ....

eg, Dan to Meg

<img src="dan/logo.gif">this is Dan's super Dan page

would become

<img src="dan/logo.gif">this is Meg's super Meg page

i found lotsa things about replacing within tags etc, but nothing about outside them.

is someone able to post some code for this or point me in the right direction?

not quite as hard as i thought
$html = preg_replace("/>(.)Dan(.)</",">$1Meg$2<",$html);

hi dan,

does your pattern actually work on your example string?

even if it had a closing tag, I would have thought it only replaced the first occurrence each between two tags 😕 (and none at all if the closing tag is missing, but that may be negligible in a wellformed html document)
