PHP mail script and header() problems.

Hiya, im new to php and i have a simple mailing script to allow people to email me automatically from my site but i keep on getting this same error. here is my script:

mail( "shanx99@hotmail.com", "shanx.co.uk Feedback Form",
$message, "From: $email", "-fuser@userdomain.com" );
header( "Location: http://www.shanx.co.uk/Paddy%20Final/thankyou.htm" );
?>

the script mails me the message each time but I keep getting this error instead of being redirected to my "thankyou" page:

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at D:\hshome\shanx99\shanx.co.uk\Paddy Final\sendmail.php:9) in D:\hshome\shanx99\shanx.co.uk\Paddy Final\sendmail.php on line 12

If anyone can help, id greatly appreciate it 😉

Hi..

well I have seen your code if you have just copy paste your code here than I see a little space between Location: and your link in your code

header( "Location: [url]http://www.shanx.co.uk/Paddy%20Final/thankyou.htm[/url]" );

So just remove that space and it all works fine...

you code will be

That seemed to stop the header problem, now i get this error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in D:\hshome\shanx99\shanx.co.uk\Paddy Final\sendmail.php on line 12

this is how my script looks now:

Hi..

I am sorry that your problem is occur due to problem in this fourm editor...

You just use your old code not mine code and remove the html a tag it is put by the text editor of the fourm your code will be

header( "Location:http://www.shanx.co.uk/Paddy Final/thankyou.htm" );
?>

and not that i have given you as it is wrongly interpreted by the editor

and one more suggestion to you that never use the whitespaces in the folder name as it some time create problem specially under linux type servers...

Hi,

do you have any echo statemetn before you send the header, If oyu have any kind of print or echo statement or HTMl code than it will give this error .
Redriect only works when no output is already sent. also if you don't have such statement than please try to remove the space from the folder name as it might create problem in this conditions

Finally i got it to work!
I realised I had my php script within an html page and when i removed all the html tags, my script worked and redirected fine to the thankyou page. Why was this? I thought you could put any php into html tags? Was this why i was transferred to the error page as opposed to being redirected?
Anyway, thanks a lot for you help,

you can avoid those "editor problems" by unchecking at least the checkbox "Automatically parse URLs" just below the textarea. Additionally, check "Disable smilies in This Post" if you have any characters that will be interpreted as smilies by PHPBuilder if you don't want that. You can still add urls by using the url tags.
