Error Connecting To Mysql From Php

I am pretty new to PHP programming and I am trying to test some stuff out locally on my CPU running apache server, however when i try to connect to the database i created, or when i try to log in to PHPMYADMIN i get the following error:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Client does not support authentication

If anyone knows how to fix this error please let me know ASAP

you need the new mysql library. You are using the old 4.0x libraries, you need the new 4.1...check the manual for more details
