get first & last day of week (date help)

Hi,

I've used the date("W",$date) function to get the week number based on a given date, but how do I now find out which was the first date of the week, and the last date... eg:

Week number = 52

(based on a week beginning on a sunday)

from: 23rd December 2003
to: 30th December 2003

can this be done?

I'm sure there's a simpler way but here's a start

//get the day of the week (numeric representation)
$dow=date('w');
//get the unix timestamp
$now=time();
//get the unix timestamp of this time on the first day of this week
//86400 is the number of seconds in a day
$sunday=$now-($dow*86400);
//get the unix timestamp of this time on the last day of the week
$saturday=$now+((6-$dow)*86400);

//Get the dates for each
$sunday_date=date('d', $sunday);
$saturday_date=date('d', $saturday);
