I do not know how to pursue what I want to do/learn about... Since I don't even know the name or concept for what I aim to learn, I will give an example and describe it as best I can.
I foresee having a page which is form driven.. One section will have a drop-down menu with 5 fields below it, which when saved, the #1 field will populate the drop-down menu.
All information on this page I want saved to a table, however, since the drop-down menu will be populated by data saved from the 5 fields, I imagine that this will be a separate table. And I imagine that since this data will also be stored in the main table, that there will simply be an ID reference to the data saved in the sub-table.
Questions:
1) What name or concept is this?
2) Is it feasible?
3) Is it the best solution for my goals?
4) Where would be a good place to see this in use? Reading about things in books or from the PHP website is nice, but it doesn't fully take traction until I see it in action. Plus, all the books I have read, none of them show how to expand upon the limited examples shown within their pages.
