LAMP is the popular platform.

I can understand why Apache, why php, I also can understand why MySQL (Personally, I prefer FireBird, but more people use MySQL, so it makes MySQL backed site more portable than FireBird backed).

But why Linux not Unix?

It is for the server OS anyway. Linux may have some advantages over Unix for the desktop applications.

But we are talking about web server. So why not using FreeBSD or other Unix OS instead of Linux? Will Unix be better as Server OS?
