can I delay the opening of a web page?

I would like to have a page that waits a few seconds before loading on the screen when called,
any ideas how to do this?
I am grabbing data from a mysql database and the page doesn't always load, I'm thinking the info isn't all there and that might be why, so if I can delay the page opening for a few seconds I can see if that has an effect or not.
