LAN over http

Hello everyone,

I don't know if it is possible at all.

I have to build a site that will work as a gateway/relay between its visitors/customers. Customer A should send message to Customer B via web form, and vice versa. An ordinary raw http should be used. The speed of communication is not of major concern, but it should be "something like" real-time, meaning, when there is a new message for customer B, site should inform it that it should reload current page or go to another.

Any idea or comment will be very useful. Thanks in advance.

its possible

you could keep refreshing the page every 10 seconds or whatever, keeping the text current.

a more eloquent way would be using javascript to keep checking for updates every few seconds. you could take a look at the xmlhttprequest object

Thanks for the replay.

Problem with JavaScript is that I am going to use VERY simple browser. Actually there would be no browser at all. It is going to be simple telnet connection on port 80.

About refreshing page... I presume it is a common technique, but I haven't used it before. Can you tell me something more about it? Is it possible to not to refresh page every 10 sec, but to refresh only when page have new content for customer?
