Image Rotator (a special one)

hi. i've been trying to get an image rotator to work on my site to use the output as avatars for forums.

so, the deal is, i've seen several good image rotator codes around but they all obviously work with a url finishing in .php (which is not accepted as an image url in forums) but a few days ago a guy in a forum succesfully used an image rotator from his site to show his avatar. his script (which he wouldn't share with me) was called from a url finishing in .png!

the url is this
http://cheff.mine.nu/images/avatar/seras.png

so basically i tried cheap stuff like changing the extension from php to png, or create a 'image.png' directory with an index.php inside, but nothing worked.

any ideas on how to make it work with a .png, .gif or .jpg at the end of the url?

use mod_rewrite

put this in an .htaccess file in your images directory

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule avatar\.gif image_script.php

make sure your image script outputs the proper mime type for the image type it is outputting.
