ok i have forums on my site and when a user scrolls all the way down to see if there is a new post and then hits f5 it takes them all the way back to the top again is there anyway the user can stay on the same part of the page after a refresh?

Well depending on the browser it sometimes does go back to where you were once its finished loading. However no there is no way to actually do it.

alright how about a code that sends it to the bottom of the page when you refresh

Well this isnt PHP related you should look into Javascript, although you can use links within the page like this'

<a href="#bottom">Go to Bottom</a>
<a name="bottom"></a> <- place this at the bottom of the page.

It can be done, but it has nothing to do with PHP. You need to use HTML's <a name = "Some_name"></a> to do want you want.

Actually, the link I just used is using what you need. Notice the # in the URL? That will take you right to the part of the page you need to read.

Well yes like i said above your post however this will only work if you click on a link, it wont work if you refresh the page. Which is what it sounds like he wants.

Sure it will as long as the # and link name are in the URL.

It won't work if a regular URL is viewed and user scrolls manually and then refreshes.

What if you placed an <a name = "newest"> </a> after the most recent post and then always called the URL with #newest appended?
