Getting Contents of a session

Hi there I have a Session which contains the details of all the products in somebodys shopping cart and i would like to print the contents of the variable onto a different page which they can print off for their own records. The session is called

$_SESSION['cart']

I have tried echo $_SESSION['cart'];

but this just returns Array on the page.

Am i doing something wrong?

you need to do a loop to extract the contents of the array, try something like:

$count = count($_SESSION['cart'] );

$cart[] = $_SESSION['cart'];


for($num=0; $num<$count; $num++)
  {
  echo $cart[$num];
  }

There is probably a neater and shorter way of doing this, i'm good at creating millions of arrays for no reason.

if you just need to see the output(like for debugging), use print_r()

print_r($_SESSION['cart']);

but it sounds like a loop is more appropriate for your case

foreach ($_SESSION['cart'] as $key => $value) {
    echo "$key: $value<br>\n";
}

Just to add onto what rehfeld said about dumping the variables for debugging. I recommed doing this:

echo "<pre>";
print_r($_SESSION['cart']);
echo "</pre>";

Else it will wind up quite a mess.

And, if you've not received enough help already --- the real issue is that you've got to tell PHP which Array item you wish to echo.

// print the total number of items in the CART

echo "Items in cart: ".count($_SESSION['cart'])."<br />";

// print the color of the third item in the cart (assuming it's a numbered cart seems to be std procedure) 

echo "Color: ".$_SESSION['cart'][2]['color'];  // note that arrays are indexed from zero

// list all SKU's in the cart, with their "name"

$ct=0;
while ($ct < count($_SESSION['cart'])) {
   echo "SKU: ".$_SESSION['cart'][$ct]." &nbsp; Item: ".$_SESSION['cart'][$ct]['name']."<br />";
   $ct++;
}

echo '<pre>',  print_r($_SESSION, TRUE), '</pre>';
