capture browser shutdown

Hello everyone,

I need to do some cleanup when the browser is shutdown or the user logs out of the system. i am using sessions to track the cleanups that I need to do .

Any idea how i can track browser closing thru php?

Im not sure,, but i suppose u could do it through javascript. on_close() or whatever the stamement is, do something

im not sure how u could implement it, but i do know that there are functions availble for dealing with browser when the user close the browser.. just take pop-ups!! a lot of the stupid sites throw a pop-up at u when u close the browser.

U do say "in php" sorry have no idea...

As Shaped says, you will have to do this through javascript: use onUnload in the <body> tag to fire a call back to the server. It is NOT possible to do it in PHP.

Thanks! Yeah, i didnt find anything in PHP that would track window closing.

FYI, I have decided to use the register_shutdown_function() to do the cleanup as it serves my purpose in his case. This would not work if I only wanted to do something at the end of a session. The shutdown function that i define gets called at the end of every PHP script.
