XLS to SQL Table?

Is it possible to convert an Excel Spreadsheet into a table for a MySQL Database, or at least an array? I'm creating a product catalogue for car dealerships, and there are approximately 1500 different products required, per dealership. I'd imagine it'd use the explode function... but I am not certain

Xcel can export data as a csv (comma separated values) file, which can then easily be imported into MySQL. Check the filetype options from xcel's 'save as' dialog box.

You can also reverse the process > MySQL to csv file>Excel.

Okay, new problem: When the user query yeilds no results, I want it to say 'your search for yaddayadda returned no results, please try again.' my efforts to implement this (I tried !isset() and checking if the variable with the query returns false) have failed... how would I go about doing this?
