does anyone know of any free php spell checkers that I could use on a text box. It needs to be one that doesn't need to be installed as I need to put it on a page that's on a hosted server.

Look into installing ASPELL/PSPELL.
I looked into aspell but it looks to me like something has to be installed on the server --- is that incorrect?
