Looking for help calling external program.

I've tried many variations and different methos posted around here and in the php manaul and none of them seem to work.

Windows XP (WAMP 5)

$command = "\"C:\Program Files\FLAC\metaflac.exe\" --show-md5sum $file";
exec($command, $output, $rv);

where $file is things like:

D:\Lossless\2pac\Loyal To The Game [2004][02] The Uppercut [EDI & Noble Of Outlawz].flac

D:\Lossless\2pac\Loyal To The Game [2004][03] Out On Bail.flac

What's wrong with that?

The spaces in the $file name? Try quoting it in the system call - the way you already do for the metaflac.exe path.

Well, this isn't strictly speaking a PHP problem. Have you tried to put something together that works when you do it yourself on the command line? What, if anything, actually happens? "None of them seem to work" is way too vague. For all anyone can tell from that, it does work, it just doesn't seem to. Need the info.
