'make' and 'make install' fail

I have downloaded 3 different versions of php and ran the ./configure with all the options that I need. It seems that it has ran fine. However, when I go to run 'make', I get No targets specified and no make file found. Stop. When I try and run 'make install', I get No rule to make target 'install'. Stop.

Versions tried on: 5.0.3, 4.3.10 and the most stable from http://qa.php.net

I am using RedHat 7 and Apache 2 (most current and stable)

if your getting that error ./configure didnt go well. Read the last bits of configure it gives you.

Hi,

execute configure the following way (redirect any output to configure.log):

./configure options >configure.log 2>&1

Then create a zip file containing configure.log and config.log (configure creates a file named config.log that contains some useful information) and post that zip file.

configure.log will contain some additional information and messages not written to config.log by configure.

i think you need to run ./configure && make && make install i was getting the same error message

I had a similar prob.

solution is
$# ./configure && make
$# make install
that sould do it

Why would

[user@mybox]$ ./configure && make && make install

be any different from

[user@mybox]$ ./configure
[user@mybox]$ make
[user@mybox]$ make install

At least in the bash shell I thought they should be the same.

They are the same in this case. The error message ***No targets specified and no make file found in the initial post is a hint that the configure script didn't finish successfully (without writing a Makefile).

This thread is rather old ... plokken, did you manage to solve the problem ?
