select then insert

Hi guys:

Is there a way to insert the output of a select query immediately after the select query is executed?

For example:

SELECT * FROM test

and

then

insert the output of the SELECT query into another table says test1

Hi,

which database do you have. Try something like

INSERT INTO ttable (tfield1,tfield2,tfield3) SELECT sfield1,sfield2,sfield3 FROM stable WHERE conditions

Use REPLACE INTO if you want to overwrite records with the same unique key values.

Don't use a WHERE clause to transfer all records of a table.

Be aware of the auto increment ; if your select clause implicitly or otherwise includes an autoinc primary key, that value will be the value transferred over to the [other] table. This might cause you to walk on primary key values in the other table and return an error. If other records depend on the rows you're moving over based on that primary key, obviously it takes a little more thought.. Just think through all the implications of your actions and you'll be just fine.
