inserting carrage returns into mySQL

Hello everyone,

I am wondering how to get mySQL to recognize carriage returns that come from a posted form.

Here is an example of what is happening:

Original Text:

Hi Jon,
Here are the changes to the Online Bill Payer FAQs:

Remove the question & answer to, "When and how will my monthly Online Bill Payer Service Fee be assessed?"
Change the question, "Will I be charged the Online Bill Payer monthly service fee even if I don't make payments" to "Will I be charged for the Online Bill Payer service?". The answer to this question should be changed to, "No. This service is free for all members who have an active Sound checking account or receive ACH direct deposit."
Remove the question & answer to, "How much does online bill payer cost?"
Add question, "Is there a daily payment limitation?". Add answer, "Yes. There is a cumulative, per day, payment limitation of $9,999.99. Payments over that amount will need to be paid in smaller increments on consecutive days."

Hi,

view the source of the page with your browser. If the text looks ok then use the nl2br function to replace the newlines with <br> tags.

web browser ignore \n characters. You need to use <br> in that case.

When viewing the page source, it is indeed correctly formmatted. So how would I go about using the nl2br function to fix it? I looked the function up, but am not sure how to incorporate it into the page so that it does indeed replace it correctly.

I don't know the code but I think that you have some code that fetches the data with e.g. mysql_fetch_array.

So do something like this (simplified):

// code that executes the query and then something like
$row = mysql_fetch_array($result);
$data = nl2br($row['text']);
echo $data;
// more PHP/HTML code
