getting session variables to persist?

I am finding that many of my session variables do not persist if I stop working in the browser window for what I consider to be a relatively short period of time (say, an hour). Is there a way for me to force the session variables to stick around for longer?

Replace int with an integer relative to the life of the session in seconds.

Is there a limit? Is there a reason to keep the number small? I was thinking of setting it to 9000, which would be 2.5 hours. Does that sound reasonable?

It really depends on how sensitive a users information is to you.

More than 15 minutes of inactivity is enough to make me force you to log back in on my sites.

you may also want to change the session.save_path to one thats private to you, so the session files dont get cleaned up by the numerous other php websites on the same shared host. by default, you session files are prob in the same directory as thiers.
