mysql version portability

Hello all,

I'm migrating from winXP to gentoo linux, and I have xampp installed on winXP. I have a fairly small mysql db that I want to move over to linux, but the db is pretty much broken.

I'd guess the problem is that xampp uses mysql 4.1 and the highest stable version packaged by gentoo is still only 4.0 -- since I run a conservative box, I'm reluctant to force an upgrade into another source tree.

So finally here's my question: is there any way to convert the db under xampp (4.1) and import it into 4.0? I see options in phpmyadmin to export, but none to import.

Btw, in case it's not obvious, I'm fairly noobish with this stuff ...

Are the tables all myISAM tabel types? If so, I am pretty sure you can copy the data folder (or subfolder(s)) over to the new box...

Otherwise, its an export/import deal which can suck if your db is big enough

The tables are all my ISAM, but none of the data is preserved from 4.1 to 4.0 -- I guess they changed something pretty fundamental between those versions.

It's okay, though; I've just discovered the mysqlimport prog, and all I have to do is figure out how to make it work. I've also been thinking it'd be handy to have something that converts xml to mysql, so I'll look around, or as a learning exercise write my own 🙂
