Such thing as Webmistress?

A co-worker asked me an interesting question today. If she was in charge of the Web server, would she be considered a Webmistress? Guys are normally Webmasters, such as myself, but what would a women be?? LOL

Hmm. After hours, no doubt. Using 'Nix, preferably:

And I think that's probably enough for a family forum. :eek:

Just consider though, which GNU tool discards symbols from object files, how RFC 1196 is implemented, how devices or nodes are added to the filesystem tree, what you type if a disk crashes, etc., etc...

In order to maintain privacy, stick with standard /bin/sh

If the jilted webmaster finds out, watch out, she might use /bin/bash..... or worse, kill -9 (.. whereas if she were your wife she might just "su", then chown -R <her> / )

Well she might. At the very least, she'll get /home and you'll be stuck living in /tmp ... probably alone, as any webmistress in her right mind would never stick for long with a cheating webmaster 😉

master -- mistress
headmaster -- headmistress
webmaster -- webmistress

But I don't think it really makes that much of a difference

I propose we revive the British military's use of "wallah" to denote someone working in a particular capacity. It is nicely gender-neutral (the Hindi word it derives from isn't even a noun, let alone a gender-specific noun describing a type of person). Let's use "wallah" instead of "master" or "mistress", if matters of genitalia are irrelevant.

Thus, just as the teaboy is called a charwallah, and the guy mucking out the toilets is the shithouse wallah, we can have chairwallahs, headwallahs, stationwallahs and webwallahs.

I propose instead of the word master, we use some sort of slang term, such as: big boss, big cheese, etc.

Exactly my point: "kulfi" is Indian ice cream. A kulfi wallah is someone employed in the Indian ice cream business. I just thought that it was unnecessary to translate the occupation.
