Need to read cookies created by another website

Hi Guys,

I'm working on a website which allows Affiliates to sign up via CCBill. Any visitors they send our way who purchase, earn the affiliate a commission. This is started at the affiliates site where he has a banner link served from ccbill.com with his account number attached. CCBill create a cookie, and when the buyer gets to CCBill to make payment, they recognise their cookie and pay the affiliates commission automatically.

Ahh! NOW - I want to send visitors who have been refered from a CCBill affiliate, to extra pages and this means looking for the cookie that ccbill sent to the visitors browser.

Can this be done? If so, how?

I am fairly positive that I read somewhere (not a blog) that cookies cannot be transferred between domains and are sole property to the originating site. Cookies are also stored locally.

If I am wrong, please correct me.
