substr_count Please Help

Hi everyone, I am having a bit of a problem here.

I need to know what "substr_count" is for? Basicly a definition...

I searched google but couldn't understand anything, every site I been to has the same information and same example...

Someone please help!!!

From the PHP Manual

substr_count -- Count the number of substring occurrences

[man]substr_count[/man]

Example:

echo substr_count("This is a test", "is"); // prints out 2

Yes thats the example and definition but I dont really get it. Is there no other way to explain that?
