I have a url like index.php?cate=C_++

Now when I go to echo $cate

It sorta works but one thing, it shows the C_ but not the ++

How can I get around this, same goes with when i use & like
C & C++

It doesnt show the & and nor the ++

Can anyone help me out so that I can echo those 2

Firstly you cant have & in the URL its considered as part of the query string instead of a value + is seen as a space.

This test will show you

<?php
var_dump($_GET);
?>

Just for example do file.php?test=c++a you will notice 2 spaces between c and a

array(1) { ["test"]=> string(4) "c a" }

So what your saying is that I can't show & and nor can I show ++ ? Even though I can show them in a url ?

No thats not what Im saying you can use it however you will need to use $_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'] however this is quite a hack especially if you do have &var=1 on the end of it which legitimate.

How can I echo that onto a page using

Im not going to spoon feed you the solution. However echo $SERVER['QUERY_STRING'] it will echo it out in this format cate=C++ all you need to do now is work out of that information what you need and what is junk. [man]explode[/man] [man]substr[/man] [man]strpos[/man] maybe some useful functions to look at.

If you're creating the links to your own pages then you can do this the correct way and avoid the hack. When outputting your urls look at the function urlencode.

A quick google search brings up this page, which has a nice description of the underlying issue.

Ok I am reading some of this stuff, I did this already and didnt actually understand it. But going to try again....

Ok can someone please help me out, I just spent a long time trying to figure out how to show the end of this url and no luck.

All I want to know is how to show C_C++ on a page

From the url ?cate=C_C++

When I just echo $_SERVER['QUERY_STRING']
I show this on a page
cate=C_C++

I only want to show everything past the =

Please..... 🙂

Try explode()

$arr = explode("=",$_SERVER['QUERY_STRING']);
echo $arr[0];
echo $arr[1];

This should output:
cate
C_C++

Great that did work, Thank you for helping me out. Learning that this way seems to help me better.

Now what if I had it like this in the url.

?cate=C++&cat=C++

How would I get it to explode where it would show :
C++/C++

So it would remove:
?cate=
and
&cat=

Without writing the code for you again, try this:

Explode the $SERVER['QUERY_STRING'] with "&"
- This gives you an array of elements like cate=C++

Then explode the array with "="
- This gives you another array with two elements, cate and C_++
