Add number remove space

Hi all,

Im trying to solve this problem for my works.. Basically there’s a text file stored which contains the following data, for example

210220055251235 00000000CASH
210220056156548 00000000CASH
210220056168907 00000000CASH
210220056150572 00000000CASH
210220056152509 00000000CASH
210220056164160 00000000CASH

The data within always changes but the format remains the same. What im trying to do is place a 0 after the first 8 digits, on every line. This then causes the cash line to move across 1 space, I need to back space this so it keeps its format. Hope that makes sense example

2102200505254754 .000000000CASH (with 0)(forum keeps removing space henc .)
2102200506156495 00000000CASH (with back space and 0)
2102200506164270 00000000CASH ""
2102200506150572 00000000CASH ""

Hope someone can help, or point in some direction..

You need to grab the part of the string with substr, and then convert it to a numeric field so that you can round up the value before re-inserting it back into the string. I think that is a more precise definition of your problem.

$line = //line from file
// grab first part and add 0
$p1 = substr($line,0,8) . '0';
// grab middle, divide by 10 and round
$p2 = round(substr($line,8,7) / 10);
// grab last part
$p3 = substr($line,15,13);
// put it back together
$newline = $p1 . $p2 . $p3;
